Royal visit of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden to Château du Clos de Vougeot
His Royal Highness received the insignia of Grand Officier de la Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin from the Grand Maître of the Confrérie.
His Majesty Carl XVI Gustaf's love of good food and fine wines is well known, which may explain why, in the year of the fiftieth anniversary of his accession, he visited Burgundy with a group of close friends.
After being shown around the Cuverie and the wine presses, the King was received in the salon d'honneur. During the investiture ceremony, the King accepted the silver Tastevin and diploma of Grand Officier from Jean-François Curie, Grand Maître of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin.
The ceremony was followed by a wine-tasting of selected Tastevinage burgundies.
The Grand Maître used his speech to remind us that the kingdom of Sweden is the sixth most important importer of wines from Burgundy, and that the present King's uncle, Prince Bertil, was admitted into the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin in 1977. The ceremony ended with the performance of a ban bourguignon, heartily taken up by all those present. Fruitful exchanges took place, with the participants promising to meet up again soon, either in Stockholm or Burgundy, in order to pursue these most cordial diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Sweden and the ancient Duchy of Burgundy.
