SAINT-VINCENT TOURNANTE OF LADOIX VILLAGE

81st edition

SAINT-VINCENT TOURNANTE OF LADOIX VILLAGE

At the conclusion of the traditional investiture ceremony of the 'vieux vignerons' of Morey-Saint-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny, the Grand Maître of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin Jean-François Curie announced the venue of the next Saint-Vincent Tournante. Forty years after hosting the event in 1984, the village of Ladoix-Serrigny in the Côte de Beaune will stage the eighty-first edition. The organising committee is raring to go and is already making preparations for the next festival which will take place on the 25th and 26th of January 2025.

LADOIX AOC

Ladoix is a village appellation produced in the vineyards of the Côte de Beaune, and more precisely, in the village of Ladoix-Serrigny. The principle grape varieties there are Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Ladoix shares the privilege with Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses of being the home of the prestigious Grand Crus Corton and Corton-Charlemagne. The vines benefit from an oceanic climate with some continental influence. The vineyard, covering a hundred hectares, produces magnificent white wines at the top of the slope, on a clay-marl soil.
Further down at mid-slope the red wines are full-bodied and powerful thanks to the clay-limestone soil. The red wines from the bottom of the vineyard are supple and fruity. The vines of Ladoix face south/south-east at a height of 230 meters. The appellation is made up of eleven Premier Cru class climats.

THE ORIGINS OF THE SAINT-VINCENT TOURNANTE

Every year at the end of the month of January, Burgundy pays homage to Saint Vincent, the patron saint of winegrowers. Saint Vincent first appears in the Middle-Ages with the creation of mutual aid societies intended to help sick or injured peasants unable to tend the vines on their own.In 1938, the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin revived and remodelled the ancient custom, turning it into a festive event, involving a procession, religious service, the investiture of retired winegrowers and wine-tastings. The celebration quickly became a key event in the region's viticultural calendar and still preserves its principal values based on conviviality and a common community spirit. Every year, it draws thousands of visitors.
